"Big Brother is watching you", "Who controls the past — controls the future" — these are all known fears, a distinguished British novelist, essayist and journalist George Orwell, the author of one of the most famous dystopia of XX century — the novel "1984". A supporter of democratic socialism and the enemy of all types of dictatorships, Orwell reflected in the novel, the horrors of the totalitarian States-the superpower, which is an extremely aggressive propaganda at the expense of human freedom and controlling all spheres of life of the population. Double standards, Newspeak, thought police, robot writers. The Ministry of love, the pain, driving to despair and destroy dissidents, and the Ministry of peace, inciting war. Once George Orwell has opened our eyes to how totalitarian regimes operate. Today we read "1984" differently with anxiety, trying to figure how far our state and the world in General had advanced on the path to hell. 27 Nov cultural project LitBüro invites you to the Terminal 42, together with the main guest of the evening, namely George Orwell's novel “1984”, to talk about the dictatorship, manipulation, and freedom, on the role of memory and history, and once again to think about the politics of doublethink: “WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE is STRENGTH”. One of the themes of the novel as relevant today as ever: Big Data. Internet giants such as Google, Facebook, Instagram, etc., every day we draw about the gigabytes of personal information, store it and, using complex algorithms, Big Data, serving us content that is certainly able to interest and influence not only our buying but also thoughts and actions.
