Chekhov”. The report will be held as part of the visiting section of the book section at the Odessa House of Scientists.              Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (January 17 (29), 1860, Taganrog, Ekaterinoslav province (now Rostov Region) - July 2 (15), 1904, Badenweiler, German Empire) - Russian writer, prose writer, playwright.              A classic of world literature. By profession a doctor. Honorary Academician of the Imperial Academy of Sciences in the category of fine literature (1900-1902). One of the most famous playwrights in the world. His works have been translated into more than 100 languages. His plays, especially The Seagull, Three Sisters, and The Cherry Orchard, have been staged in many theaters around the world for over 100 years.                  Over 25 years of creativity Chekhov has created more than 500 different works (short humorous stories, serious stories, plays), many of which have become classics of world literature. Particular attention was paid to themselves by “Steppe”, “Boring Story”, “Duel”, “Ward No. 6”, “Story of an unknown person”, “Men”, “Man in a case”, “In a ravine”, “Children”, “ Drama on the hunt ”; from the plays: “Ivanov”, “The Seagull”, “Uncle Vanya”, “Three Sisters”, “The Cherry Orchard”.Odessa occupied a considerable place in the life and work of Chekhov. It was here that the Petersburg ship came in the autumn of 1890, on which the writer returned from a difficult journey to Sakhalin. Here he met Ignatius Potapenko, who became one of Anton Pavlovich's closest friends. Perhaps it was here in 1901 that fate gave him many details of the plot of The Cherry Orchard ... And the first acquaintance with Odessa occurred in the summer of 1889, when Chekhov and his brother Ivan came here from Sumy to dispel the longing after the death of the "coughing artist" - the talented brother Nikolai.              Chekhov spent twelve days in Odessa next to a troupe of actors of the Maly Theater who toured there. Never in his life had there been a period of such close and everyday communication with the actor’s brotherhood as in those July days. These days are described in detail in the essay of the oldest theater historian A.Ya. Altshuller. The prime minister of the troupe, the famous artist of the Maly Theater Alexander Pavlovich Lensky called him there - a new friend.                January 29 this year marks the 160th anniversary of the great writer. In Odessa Literary Museum, in honor of the memorable date, the exhibition "Your A. Chekhov" is opened, which presents lifetime editions and manuscripts of the writer.
