22 February 2020, 14:00
category: lecture
free
place: Odessa regional scientific library. M. Hrushevsky (St. Trinity, 49/51)

A lecture by historian Pavel Mayboroda will be devoted to the Stalinist "Great Terror" - the mass repressions that unfolded in the USSR in 1937 - 1938.       The first part of the lecture will highlight the general premises of the Great Terror, as well as the mechanisms and specifics of its implementation. Particular attention will be paid to the activities of the NKVD bodies in Odessa.       In the second part of the lecture, we will talk about the fate of two forgotten historians - Vladimir Solomonovich Reizhevsky and Feokhari Grigorievich Feokharidi. Both of them came from fairly wealthy families involved in trade before the 1917 revolution. Having received a good education, they both tried to take their place among the new “red” intelligentsia. However, first the realities of the post-revolutionary reality, and then the mass repressions cut short their creative path almost at its very beginning.              The lecture will be held on February 22, beginning at 14.00 in the premises of the Odessa Regional Universal Library. M. Grushevsky (Troitskaya St. 49/51). Free admission :).
