Valery Yukhimov "Closing of the Late Holocene" / Painting, Graphics

07 July 2020, 11:00
category: exhibition
place: Museum of Western and Oriental art (Pushkinskaya str., 9)

The exhibition of works by Valery Yukhimov - an anniversary retrospective - offers an acquaintance with various areas of his pictorial practice. Different - in terms of subjects, materials and performance techniques, moods ... At the same time, this “difference” of the author does not interfere with his recognition at all, and is his own distinctive property. The title of the exhibition includes the final, the lowered theater curtain - the author’s sensation of the end of an era, the end of time - timelessness. By sliding the curtain, the artist invites the viewer to look again at the pictures of the outgoing world - the scenery is already being disassembled there, and work scenes, like labor ants, are hosted in an abandoned house. ... the Black Sea has thrown back from Kichi, walks widely, sprinkles with splashes, throws glasses against the wall, white noise hisses backing beer karaoke, until the close of the Late Holocene. time comes out of sparkling nitrogen from the blood, taken on inspiration loan, returns to a long space, releasing it, there comes a glacial tide, as a manifestation of female inconstancy. The poetry of painting by Valery Yukhimov is inextricably linked with his poetics of the word, figurativeness and method of expression - irony. The plot phantasmagoria of the Odessa opera, the Minotaur on Langeron, the abduction of Europe, the dreams of Gogol, coexist with the landscape of the deserted coast of Carolino-Bugaz, a still life of flowers in a vessel, grapevine inscriptions, aging houses ...Valery Yukhimov is laconic in color, preferring subtle nuances, is conditionally figurative, metaphorical, his world is deserted, and is inhabited by only one observer peering through the gap of the curtain that was moved back. This observer is the one who will extinguish the candles in Haydn's Farewell (45th) Symphony. One by one, the musicians leave the stage, the light is melting, and in the thickened darkness the chair in the stalls will pierce piercingly.
