The eclecticism of styles and architectural experiments of architects never cease to amaze and delight the guests of the city from Odessa.  In the second story from the cycle "Mixed in Odessa" we will talk about classicism - the style from which the history of South Palmyra began. Classicism and its canons were incorporated into the original layout of Odessa with a strict network of quarters and streets intersecting at right angles. The city was founded in the heyday of Russian classicism, when the mannerism and pretentiousness of the baroque and rococo were replaced by the simplicity and severity of monumental forms. Brothers-Italians Frapolli and the outstanding St. Petersburg architect Toma de Tomon worked on the first buildings of the classical style in Odessa. Until the 1840s. the city was built by the classicists Boffo, Toricelli, Dallaqua, Kozlov and other architects, each of whom brought a number of unique details to the city's appearance. The era of classicism was one of the key ones in the history of Odessa architecture and urban planning. At this time, such masterpieces of style were created as the Primorsky Boulevard ensemble with a semicircular square and the Richelieu monument, the Primorskaya Stairs, the Vorontsov Palace and Palais Royal complexes, the old stock exchange, the first city theater and much more. These buildings have defined the look of Odessa. If you missed "architectural terms" - an entry is available. Access the complete course.
