"Forgotten religions of Odessa" lecture by Stanislav Galinovsky

Despite the fact that the history of our city on a historical scale is not so long, our region has always been at the crossroads of trade routes, and not only goods, but also ideas moved along them. In ancient times, Greek colonists practiced their own, often special cults of Dionysus, Roman legionaries brought the cult of the god Mithra. In our region, it is possible that the first bishops of the Goths preached Arianism, the Karaite merchants traveled here, and the Moscow-Novgorod heresy may well have begun from the Italian colonies. Old Believers and mysterious eunuchs fled here from the oppression of the official authorities. German colonists brought the ideas of pietism, and the Mennonite colonists partly became the founders of the Stundism movement. There were strange Innokentyevites, there were also terrible cases of self-burying, and much more. Although this is a forgotten part of the history of our city, this does not make it less significant.
