We, the inhabitants of Odessa, do not tolerate a series of everyday life, we always crave new meetings, events, and impressions. So this evening is dedicated to one of the brightest representatives of pop songs, the idol of the 30s - Pyotr Konstantinovich Leshchenko. His name is associated with a complex and controversial period in the life of our blessed city. - German-Romanian occupation of 1941-1944. The Romanians came to Odessa, as it seemed to them, for a long time ... it turned out for 907 days. The city was to become the capital of Transnistria and bear the name Antonescu. The Romanians quite quickly brought relative order to the city and approached the organization of life in the city in a businesslike way. It is a pity that this was a fascist business, and the methods of its conduct were fascist. In general, it is very bad when someone invades your land and begins to establish their own rules. During the years of occupation, Odessa managed to see a lot. Many leading European artists and opera singers have visited here. This is the famous Italian tenor Luigi Magistretti, the soloist of the Milan Opera Neonila Belioz, and, of course, Pyotr Leshchenko. Odessa artists and theater troupes actively toured.Six theaters functioned and staged performances: the Ukrainian Drama, the Opera, the Russian Drama, the Puppet Theatre, the Grotesque and even… the Intimate Theatre. True, instead of erotic scenes, jazz was played there. But cinemas at that time, among the civilian population, were not particularly popular ... films were only in German and Romanian. By the way, German money also went, not Romanian (the economy should be economical) - Germany protected its finances from the Romanians. In fact, paradoxically, Hitler created his own European Union on blood and bones ... It should be noted that many people who lived here then remembered this time as the heyday of South Palmyra. I wonder what would be the answer of thousands and thousands of murdered and tortured Jews, and many, many thousands of murdered Soviet people of other nationalities? But back to Peter Leshchenko. He had his own restaurant in Bucharest, which was called La Lescenko (At Leshchenko). In Teatralny Lane (now Tchaikovsky), he opened the Severny restaurant, very popular at that time. Odessans fell in love with the singer, despite the fact that the word "Odessa" never sounded in his repertoire. With the help of music and our good mood, we will try to recreate the atmosphere of his then restaurant and recall your favorite melodies, songs and romances.
