As Ostap Bender argued, "all the smuggling is done in Odessa, on Malaya Arnautskaya." On March 14th we will have the opportunity to test this version. No, we will not study the underground artels of the legendary street, but we will talk to the founder of the Smuggling Museum, Alexander Otdelnov, and hear many amazing stories about the ingenuity of smugglers and the resourcefulness of law enforcement agencies. Lecture theses: • smuggling, its role in the emergence of Odessa and the formation of a unique image of the city; • times of Porto-free in Odessa. 1817-1859 years and funny stories of those years; • the role of smuggling in world history; • main types of smuggling and smugglers' caches; smuggling of gold; • arms smuggling, its impact on world politics; • drug smuggling. Places and volumes of production, delivery routes and organization of stable smuggling channels, methods of the authorities' fight against drug trafficking. Curiosities and amazing stories; • smuggling of the times of the USSR. The main types of smuggling of that time, its value and criminal liability; emigrants and smuggling. Successful and unsuccessful smuggling stories; • Meliksetyan's criminal case on an attempt to export millions of dollars worth of historical valuables from the USSR. Demonstration of original documents from the criminal case; • smuggling today: what is brought into Ukraine and what is exported; innovations: tunnels, pipelines, small aircraft, quadcopters, the use of cryptocurrencies, etc .; • assessment of the prospects for combating smuggling.About the speaker: Alexander Otdelnov, founder of the Smuggling Museum - the only museum of its kind in Eastern Europe. Its collection numbers over 150 exhibits, all of which reflect the smuggling life of Odessa from the 19th century to the present day. Among the exhibits you can see cocaine caches in deck boards, car doors with thousands of cigarette packs inside, a plan of the underground passage of smugglers near Uzhgorod and much more. The museum was opened in 2012 and is popular with residents of Odessa and guests of the city. The criminal romance of the past centuries, sung in folklore, forms a stable image of our city today.
