Ucraina terra magnifica: authentic reality

26 October 2019, 10:30
category: exhibition
place: Museum of Western and Oriental art (Pushkinskaya str., 9)

From October 18 to November 10, the Odessa Museum of Oriental and Western Art, with the support of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Odessa City Council, will host an exhibition of authentic Ukrainian costumes and designer dolls “Ucraina terra magnifica: reliable reality”. Opening 18.10.19 at 16.00, admission to the opening is free.     The Kukultura project, Odessa, famous for hosting the German Puppet Christmas exhibitions, the Max Oscar-Arnold Award, the Lorem Pupa, the Ukrainian Traditional Costume museum and exhibition project, the Dnieper, which studies folk costumes, and the Culturemeter publication ”, Odessa, developed the concept of this event for more than six months.        The main element of the exposition is the presentation of the Kaisersdorf collection of Ukrainian folk costumes and jewelry from different regions of the country, which is being developed by researcher and collector Maya Ernst, Dnipro. The Kaisersdorf collection represents the unity of not only the East and West of Ukraine, which is consonant with the name of the central museum of Odessa, where the exhibition will take place, but also of the whole country as a whole, thanks to the diversity and careful approach of the collector. Maya travels around the country, holds lectures for the project “Ukrainian Traditions”. In total, about 40 women's costume complexes will be presented, including jewelry, which are unique in many senses exhibits dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. The second collection of the exhibition is the author's textile, sculptural, porcelain dolls (more than 50), from masters who are members of the National Community of Folk Artists of Ukraine, international associations of artists that offer the public a modern interpretation of the folk costume complex.      Being one of the largest countries in Europe, Ukraine is subject to the variability of folk costumes and creativity. A similar trend is observed in the Odessa region, due to its multinationality. A separate surprise of the exposition will be the theme of Bessarabia, represented by a collection of folk costume and dolls by Anna Konstantinova.        The exhibition is a historically significant cultural event not only for Odessa, but also for Ukraine as a whole, with the possibility of training, spiritual and aesthetic development. The program plans to conduct lectures, master classes, excursions, artistic improvisation, and a concert.
