The Museum of Modern Art in Odessa will host an exhibition of the cult artist Alexander Shevchuk "Garden and park sculpture". The work of Alexander Shevchuk is an integral part of the history of contemporary art in Odessa. In the 90s, it was created by a small circle of people, regularly who took part in exhibitions and promotions. One of these Atlanteans is Alexander Shevchuk (Chef, as he is called then and now). It paradoxically coexists conscientious honesty and irrepressible "attraction to the strange." A multimedia artist, in whose work you can find everything: objects, installations, video, computer graphics, promotions, but most importantly - photos. The project "Garden and Park Sculpture" will feature a series of works, where the author turns to female and male nudity. Nudity in Shevchuk's "nudes" is deceptive; it is masterfully covered by an invisible drapery of sculpture or irony. In the photo, the bodies are placed in classical compositions on pedestals. Such sculptural groups were widely replicated in sanatoriums and rest homes of the Stalinist Empire period. The series of works “Garden and park sculpture” amazes not only with its exquisite aesthetics, but also with its ingenious laconicism and multi-layered associations ... “, says the curator of the exhibition Tatiana-Margarita Xu. The exhibition will also show archival photos, objects and videos, and the exhibition itself is timed to coincide with the anniversary of the author.“... Odessa actionism of the late 80s-90s was largely recorded by Alexander Shevchuk. Documentation is documentation; the photographer's task is to remain anonymous and objective witness. And, nevertheless, it is thanks to the active (albeit implicit) intervention of a talented observer, a number of Odessa actions appear before us today, not only as concepts, but also as visual masterpieces ... ”, writes art critic Mikhail Rashkovetskiy about Shevchuk. Opening August 28 at 19:00. The exhibition will run from August 28 to September 28, 2020. Attention! Entrance to the exhibition - in stages, 15 people each, to prevent a large crowd of people.
