This is a special technique for painting on fabric using reserving compounds. A plain fabric is stretched over a wooden frame and painted according to a previously prepared drawing. Traditionally, Indonesia is called the birthplace of batik, although painting on fabric has long been used in Peru, Japan, Sri Lanka, Central Asia, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Africa and Indochina.
