Arthouse Club opens the new season and at our first meeting we will watch the most discussed film of the year - the South Korean black comedy Parasites directed by Pong Joon-ho! "Parasites" received the Golden Palm Branch at the last Cannes Film Festival and blew a standing ovation at the 10th Anniversary Odessa International Film Festival this summer. They are afraid to spoil the plot of the film, but they cannot describe the genre in one word, because this is black comedy, social satire and family drama mixed with grotesque and irony. That is why we will gather to share our impressions and find non-obvious topics hidden in the film. Keyca's family lives in the basement and interrupts with scanty earnings, collecting packaging for pizza. The situation changes when the eldest son of Ki Wu, thanks to the recommendation of a friend, fake diploma and natural charm, gets the job of an English tutor for the daughter of businessman Pak. Once in a luxurious home, the guy finds a very non-trivial way to solve the problems of his family. Pong Joon Ho is the first Korean director to be awarded the Cannes main award. On his account, 7 feature films, the San Sebastian Prize and the Asian Film Academy. First of all, the director is familiar to Ukrainian viewers in the Korean-American science fiction drama “Okcha”, filmed for Netflix and nominated for the “Golden Palm Branch”, and with the thrilling action film dystopia “Through the Snow” with Tilda Swinton and Chris Evans.
